Snowblind-Rage! Posted: 02/23/2008

Greetings Metal Misters and Misses,

It's your self-oppointed Mayor of Mayhem, S.M. Graves here once again to point out something to put it as light as possible, fucking blows a dirty bum's dick...and today's subject is snow.

Snow is a plague that drops from the sky and makes people act in mysterious ways...one of which is the more popular...is that it makes everybody ooh and aww, which is fine if you're a 4-year old girl, but when full grown adults start mincing around like idiots...it grates my nerves.

But worse is that it just makes everything just slow to mouse-fart speed slow. You can't walk to the store get a paper, coffee, bagel in the morning, you can't go anywhere because your car has been entombed, and if you have to dig yourself out, we live in a society, people, digging should be left to ditchdiggers, it is in the job description, and speaking of jobs...Satan forbid, you have to work in this muck....Question? How many snowflakes does it take for the MTA to become clueless in what should be done? Answer: Just Fucking ONE!!!...snow is not magical, people, snow is fucked and besides from making everything look like a Swedish death metal cover, sucks...This is your pal Graves signing off saying "If it ain't the kinda snow you can snort off a stripper's titty, then it ain't no snow I know not to be shitty."

In The Lab Posted: 01/11/2008

Hello kiddies! 2008 is going to be a big year for us. In case you've been wondering why we have no shows planned for the immediate future your old pals Shadow Of Demise have been toiling away until our fingers bleed to bring you some brand new brutal fuckin' metal to bang your sisters heads to. In the meantime, we'll be posting some video footage from our December show where we got to open for Obituary. We're also working on a few concepts for new t-shirt designs so you'll have some new swag to rock.

As far as playing live is concerned we're planning on starting out a fresh murderous rampage in the springtime and blowing your brains out all through the summer with enough metal to put U.S. Steel out of business.

Until next time... Stay fuckin brutal!

THANK YOU!...and more Posted: 12/10/2007

A big thank you to all you sick fucks who came down to support us at the Obituary show on Saturday night. Despite the early slot, we had a fucking blast tearing shit up with you all. Thanks to everyone who made the gig possible, all of the bands that played that night and all our fans (new and old) that kept the beast alive and helped end the year on a real high note. You all fuckin' rule! We'll be spending the rest of winter continuing to write songs for the next record to be released sometime next year. In the meantime, be on the lookout for the possible future release of the first Shadow Of Demise DVD featuring this past Saturday's show at Europa. Stay brutal!

About Heavy Metal
Heavy Metal

  • Vader Tour Dates
Vader is set to headline the Monsters Of Death Tour, which begins November 4, 2009 in Baltimore, Maryland. Supporting bands include Decrepit Birth, Warbringer, The Amenta, S.W.W.A.A.T.S. and Augury.
Vader guitarist/vocalist Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek: “Metal always was and still needs to be a brotherhood. All we were doing [in the past] to support the music and the scene was cooperating with other bands. Natural selection decides if a band is really dedicated or if it's just an episode. Not much has changed today, actually. Even if the so-called ‘metal music business’ changed some rules, there will still be those who play with passion and those who want success. It is not us who wanna be ‘a judge,’ so we always try to tour with bands we have a good relationship with. A good time and a friendly atmosphere is important for all of us. I only hope that everybody will enjoy the tour and will come away with good lessons from it... like we in Vader always do.”
The Monsters of Death Tour will mark the North American debut of Vader's live line-up: Vocalist/guitarist Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek (Guitar/Vocals), guitarist Waclaw "Vogg" Kieltyka (Decapitated), bassist Reyash and drummer Pawel Jaroszewicz (Soul Snatcher). Vader’s new album Necropolis will be released in the U.S. & Canada on September 22nd. Recorded at Hertz Studios in Bialystok, Poland with the Wieslawski Bros., Tue Madsen mixed the album at Antfarm Studios in Denmark.
Vader, Decrepit Birth, Warbringer, The Amenta, S.W.W.A.A.T.S., and Augury Tour Dates:
11/04/09 Sonar – Baltimore, MD
11/05/09 The Palladium – Worcester, MA
11/06/09 Webster Underground – Hartford, CT
11/07/09 The Blender Theater @ Gramercy – New York, NY
11/08/09 Fou Founes Electriques – Montreal, QC – Canada
11/09/09 Imperial de Quebec – Quebec City, QC – Canada
11/10/09 Mod Club – Toronto, ON – Canada
11/11/09 Penny Arcade – Rochester, NY
11/12/09 Peabody’s – Cleveland, OH
11/13/09 The Pearl Room – Mokena, IL
11/14/09 Rave – Milwaukee, WI
11/15/09 Station 4 – St. Paul, MN
11/16/09 Royal Albert Arms – Winnipeg, MB – Canada
11/17/09 The Exchange – Regina, SK – Canada
11/18/09 The Underground – Calgary, AB – Canada
11/19/09 Starlite Room – Edmonton, AB – Canada
11/20/09 Roll-A-Dome – Prince George, BC – Canada
11/21/09 Bourbon – Vancouver, BC – Canada
11/22/09 Sugar – Victoria, BC – Canada
11/23/09 El Corazon – Seattle, WA
11/24/09 Satyricon – Portland, OR
11/25/09 Regency Grand Ballroom – San Francisco, CA
11/27/09 Jumping Turtle – San Marcos, CA
11/28/09 Chain Reaction – Anaheim, CA
11/29/09 The Key Club – Hollywood, CA
11/30/09 U.B’s – Mesa, AZ
12/01/09 The Rock – Tucson, AZ
12/02/09 Gator’s – Farmington, NM
12/03/09 Club Vegas – Salt Lake City, UT
12/04/09 Bluebird Theater – Denver, CO
12/05/09 Marquee – Tulsa, OK
12/06/09 Scout Bar – San Antonio, TX
12/07/09 Scout Bar – Houston, TX
12/09/09 The Masquerade – Atlanta, GA
12/10/09 Peppermint Beach Club – Virginia Beach, VA
12/11/09 Volume 11 – Raleigh, NC
12/12/09 Rex Theater – Pittsburgh, PA
12/13/09 The Trocadero – Philadelphia, PA
• Killswitch Engage - Killswitch Engage Review
<img src="http://z.about.com/d/heavymetal/1/G/G/d/-/-/killswitchengage-killswitchengage.jpg"align="right"border="0"> Killswitch Engage is a natural progression for the band. While still packing plenty of punch and aggression, their melodic side is even more developed on this CD. “The Return” is a ballad, with almost all clean vocals from Howard Jones. There are a few other songs that are some of the most accessible Killswitch Engage has done.
Tracks like “Light In A Darkened World” are more in the vein of recent Killswitch, with pummeling drums and screaming vocals easing up into memorable riffs and melodic singing. The twin guitars of Dutkiewicz and Joel Stroetzel are excellent throughout, whether it’s dishing out thrashy riffs, harmonies or fills. “Save Me” especially showcases their chops and versatility.
Read the complete Killswitch Engage - Killswitch Engage Review
(CD cover courtesy Roadrunner Records)

There's a lot of experience on this month's top five list, which features artists with a lot of past success. They prove their present output is still high quality. Bands on the list include well-known acts like Dream Theater and Killswitch Engage alongside underrated groups like Slough Feg and Coalesce. Take a look at my list, then post your selections for the best CDs released in June.
June 2009 Best Heavy Metal CDs
Previous Monthly Best Metal CDs Lists:

January 2009 Best Heavy Metal CDs

February 2009 Best Heavy Metal CDs

March 2009 Best Heavy Metal CDs

April 2009 Best Heavy Metal CDs

May 2009 Best Heavy Metal CDs

(CD cover courtesy Nuclear Blast Records)
  • Sunn O))) Interview
<img src="http://z.about.com/d/heavymetal/1/G/r/c/-/-/sunno.jpg"align="right"border="0"> Sunn O))) recently released their seventh album Monoliths and Dimensions via Southern Lord . About.com had a chat with Greg Anderson about the new album, the influence of Gregorian chants and spirituality on the band’s music and approach and Attila Csihar's (Mayhem) expanded role in the group.
Justin M. Norton: Can you tell me a little bit about the writing process for Monoliths and Dimensions?
Greg Anderson: Steve and I get together in a recording studio and bounce ideas and riffs off of each other. Things developed that way. There were a few things that were brought in ahead of time – each person will bring in a riff or an idea to get started. For the most part, songs unfold in the studio. Oren Ambarchi (Australian guitar player) was part of some of the initial songwriting and Attila Csihar (also Mayhem’s vocalist) was here. A lot of his contributions were added after he heard the initial tracking.
While occasionally dissonant, the new music doesn’t seem as dark or suffocating as Black One. Did you want to include more space and lighter shades on this album?
I don’t know if it was a conscious decision. It’s a result of where our heads are at the moment. When we wrote and recorded Black One we were in a very different head space. Part of it has to do with a willingness to be open to different things and different shades. You could even call it different shades of black (laughs). But that record was pretty dark and deep and intense. This one has some of those qualities, but lets the light in on pieces.
Read the complete Sunn O))) Interview
  • Kittie Announce Upcoming CD In The Black
Kittie has signed a three album deal with E1 Music. In The Black is slated to be released September 15, 2009. Some new songs on the album are "Cut Throat," "Sorrow I Know" and "My Plague." The band's last CD Funeral For Yesterday was released in 2007.
Kittie vocalist Morgan Lander says, “We are totally thrilled and honored to be working with Scott Givens and to now be part of the E1 family. We have been hard at work for the past few months perfecting our latest musical offering and are pleased with the final result of In The Black. It is everything that Kittie is supposed to be: heavy, fast, brash and nasty, yet at times introspective, feminine and emotional. One thing it is not, however, is compromising of the sound and style that we have come to be known for. This s*** is HEAVY! Our new label pairing with E1 will actualize the vision that we have held constant over the years for the band."
Currently the band is working on Fall tour plans and will be shooting two videos during the month of July.

  • Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Linings Review
<img src="http://z.about.com/d/heavymetal/1/G/5/d/-/-/dreamtheater-blackclouds.jpg"align="right"border="0"> Progressive veterans Dream Theater are one of the definitive bands in the genre, and every release is met with anticipation and high expectations. Their latest effort Black Clouds & Silver Linings only has six songs, but a few of them are really long, clocking it at between 10 and 20 minutes, so there's plenty of bang for your buck.
Black Clouds & Silver Linings opens with the epic "A Nightmare To Remember," which has all the elements of a good Dream Theater song: intricate arrangements, numerous tempo and intensity changes and plenty of hooks. They continue the momentum with "A Rite Of Passage," my favorite song on the album, which features a lot of guitars. Things slow down with the power ballad "Wither," a straightforward song, and the shortest on the CD.
Read the complete Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Linings Review
(CD cover courtesy Roadrunner Records)
  • Amorphis Interview
<img src="http://z.about.com/d/heavymetal/1/G/-/d/-/-/amorphis.jpg"align="right"border="0"> For nearly two decades Amorphis has been one of the most popular and successful Finnish metal bands. From their groundbreaking 1994 album Tales From The Thousand Lakes to their current release Skyforger, Amorphis’ sound has evolved over the years. This is current vocalist Tomi Joutsen’s third album with the band. We spoke about Skyforger, their use of the Finnish national epic as a lyrical inspiration, their tour plans, his beginnings as a drummer and the return of his other band Sinisthra after a hiatus.
Chad Bowar: Is Skyforger musically similar to your last CD Silent Waters?
Tomi Joutsen: I think so. We continued with the same people we had on the last album. We composed the music first, then the lyrics. We didn’t want to do a totally different style. We wanted to continue with the style we found a couple years ago.
You used the Finnish national epic Kalevala for your lyrics again this album. Do you anticipate using it again in the future?
I guess we have to do something completely different in the near future, but this time it worked well again. The same guy who wrote the lyrics for the last album did the lyrics for this one, too. He took one story from the book and wrote his own version of the story. We are really satisfied with the results. I don’t want to write lyrics, because I’m not good at it. It’s good that we have a guy that can do it.
Read the complete Amorphis Interview
  • Best Heavy Metal Albums Of 1981
<img src="http://z.about.com/d/heavymetal/1/6/T/Z/-/-/motleycrue-toofast.jpg"align="right"border="0"> After the incredible albums that came out in 1980, the following year wasn't even close in terms of groundbreaking metal albums. In fact, 1981 was probably the weakest year of the '80s. The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal bands were still going strong in 1981, and most of the albums were from British bands. However, there were a couple American bands on the list, and one that would put the Sunset Strip of Los Angeles on the map and open the floodgates for a deluge of glam and hair bands that we would see for the rest of the decade. Check out my list, then post your lists in the comments field below!
Best Heavy Metal Albums Of 1981
